Hello Rosary Lovers! Here, we are all about Mary and the Rosary. Sure we write about all sorts of Catholic stuff, but primarily it’s Mary and her Psalter (the Rosary).

In this post we will discuss how to get to know Mary.

Getting to know Mary is the most important thing in anyone’s life

The first thing to say is that getting to know Mary is worth it because it is the most important thing anyone can do in their life.

This is because Mary will ALWAYS lead you to Jesus Christ, the Saviour of the world.

Mary is the living and everlasting Temple of God in which God was conceived. She is the Throne of grace, upon which God sits forever.

You cannot approach Mary without at the same time being brought immediately into the presence of Almighty God.

If you want to see miracles, you need to begin a relationship with Mary.

If you wish to know Jesus Christ better than you’ve ever known him, you need to get to know Mary.

Mary will electrify your faith. She will super-charge everything about your faith in God.

You need to realise that as a child of God the Father, you also have a heavenly Mother! A real Mother, who adores you and will listen to your every concern, and help you in every part of your life.

Don’t waste this tremendous gift from God.

Plenty of saints taught that no-one can be saved without having some kind of a relationship with Mary, because Mary immediately brings us salvation: Jesus. Her entire function in our lives is to offer us Christ constantly.

Try this 7-step method for getting to know Mary deeply. Adapt it to your own situation.

Step 1: start talking to Mary in your own words

Begin to get to know Mary by talking to her. For many of us, this will be a major step forward. ‘Is she listening?’ we may wonder.

Yes she is! Talk to her as you would your mother or father, or a close friend. And see what Mary begins to do for you.

There are plenty of people (myself included) who can testify that beginning to talk to Mary was a major turning-point in their lives, that strange things began happening that they couldn’t understand.

Step 2: begin using formal prayers, such as Consecration prayers to Mary

When we have begun to speak to her, we might wish to use some extremely powerful, time-honoured words.

We can do no better than to use the very words the saints have used to address the most holy Mother of the living God.

Prayers to Mary by saints, especially consecration prayers, contain EVERYTHING we need to say to God. Try these incredible prayers that utterly changed my life.

Alternatively you can try this massive list. You’re sure to find something to take your fancy.

Step 3: consecrate yourself to Mary formally/officially

When you’ve been praying powerful and dedicated prayers to Mary for a time, you may wish to dedicate yourself to her formally and finally.

To do this, you can follow St Louis de Montfort’s infamous 34-day Consecration to Jesus through Mary.

It’s not easy, but it will be another profound turning-point in your life.

I did this in 2020 and my Consecration Day was 8th December, the Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception.

Step 4: give yourself to the Rosary

Once given to Mary, it is best to give ourselves to her Rosary. The Rosary is one of the most precious things to Mary. She apparently loves it second only to the most Holy Mass.

Learn how to pray the Rosary here at Rosary Lovers. We have tonnes of posts on the Rosary and how to pray it. Click here.

When you’ve learned how to pray the Rosary, you may wish to buy a Rosary. We have a post to help with this: click here.

When you have a Rosary, get it blessed by a Catholic priest. Then try praying merely one single decade of the Rosary daily: just 1 mystery, 1 Our Father, 10 Hail Marys and 1 Glory Be.

Then build up to 5 decades a day. Spread these decades throughout the day. I don’t recommend necessarily doing all 5 in one hit, but this would be a great blessing if you did.

Then try adding a second Rosary (another 5 decades) to your daily prayers.

Then try adding a third.

Finally, you may wish to pray all the mysteries everyday: the Joyful, the Luminous, the Sorrowful and the Glorious mysteries!

This will take between an hour and an hour and 20 minutes daily. Spread throughout the day, this isn’t much and you’ll get used to it quickly.

If you give yourself the Rosary, you’ll know the presence of God like never before. You’ll know such peace of soul. You’ll find it so hard to doubt the Catholic faith and the existence of God. You’ll even find it hard to willfully sin.

Step 5: get enrolled in the Brown Scapular

I have a post on the Scapular, check it out here. Also see this link for loads of information on it.

The Scapular is the EASIEST way to get saved and get to heaven and avoid hell.

You simply buy one, get enrolled by a Catholic priest, and wear it everyday and try not to take it off (unless you have to, like showering).

As a result, you participate in ALL of the spiritual blessings and prayers of the entire Carmelite Order.

You are also assured that so long as you wear it and die wearing it, you CANNOT go to hell. Mary promised this to St Simon Stock.

The Scapular in all its immense simplicity and beauty is a constant silent prayer to God through Mary, and constant sign of consecration to Jesus through Mary.

You will eventually really notice the difference if ever you take it off.

Step 6: join the Association of Mary Queen of all hearts

This Association is for those who have completed St Louis de Montfort’s 34-day consecration to Mary.

There are many spiritual benefits of being part of this Association, such as regular PLENARY indulgences for doing nothing other than being a member.

It’s entirely free to join.

Step 7: join the Confraternity of the Rosary

This is the natural step for anyone who prays the Rosary. The benefits of being part of it are amazing.

You participate in ALL the spiritual blessings and prayers of the entire Dominican Order.

You share in the prayers of all the members, both living and dead. When you die, the Confraternity will continue to pray for you.

Plus, lots of indulgences.

It’s also entirely free to join, and you don’t even necessarily need to be Catholic (!!).

If you have any questions, please leave it in the comments section below and I will try to get back to you asap!

God bless, through Jesus Christ, through the Immaculate Heart of Mary, Seat of Wisdom.
